Water Polo’s Olivia Slavens Named SCC Most Valuable Player

2023 All-SCC Women's Water Polo

After winning their seventh-consecutive South Coast Conference title, Head Coach Chris Oeding was selected for his seventh-consecutive SCC Coach of the Year award after having another undefeated 8-0 season. The Vikings have been undefeated for 73 straight games in the SCC.

Freshman attacker Olivia Slavens was announced as the Most Valuable Player as she totaled 94 goals and 67 steals. Sophomores center Katie Juarez, attacker Sharon Vargas, and goalkeeper Danielle Sgontz were all named to the First-Team accolades. Juarez tallied 46 goals, while two-time First-Team recipient Sharon Vargas nabbed 27 steals and 37 goals for the Vikings. Sgontz held it down in the cage with 82 saves.

Sophomore utility Julia Miller and freshman defender Gabby Gillott reeled in Second-Team honors this season. Miller drew 18 exclusions, while still totaling 18 goals. Gillott was the facilitator from the point and had 28 steals, seven blocks, and 13 goals.

Honorable mentions went to freshman defender Elizabeth Jung and freshman goalkeeper Avery Reyes.
