Women’s Cross Country: Vikings open against tough competition at UCSD

The Long Beach City College women's cross country team opened the 2012 schedule at the UC San Diego Season Opener meet. Long Beach competed against five other colleges ranging from NCAA Division I to NAIA. LBCC did not earn a team score as just four women made the trip down south.

Leading LBCC individually was sophomore Valerie Nettles. She finished in 68th place overall with a time of 19:42.4. Right behind her was freshman Allison Martinez in 69th place at 20:01.9.

Freshman Diana Ramos clocked in at 20:16.6 for 72nd place and freshman Courtney Porter rounded out the Vikings' results with her time of 21:50.0 for 75th place.

San Diego State University won the women's competition with 26 points, followed by UCSD (49 points) and Cal State Los Angeles University (93 points).

Long Beach returns to action next Friday when it will compete at the Palomar Invitational at Guajome Park in Oceanside.
