Alexis Ceballos Tabbed SCC Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year

It was recently announced that sophomore Alexis Ceballos (Long Beach, CA) was crowned the South Coast Conference women's cross country Female Athlete of the Year following her top finish at the South Coast Conference (SCC) Championships at the Legg Lake Park Course in Whittier Narrows Recreational Area.

Ceballos becomes the first female Viking individual champion since 2005 when Amelia Valinsky-Fillipow hauled in the SCC crown at Griffith Park in Los Angeles.

Ceballos cruised to an overall time of 18:36.0 which paced the SCC field. She utilized an average mile time of 5:59.2 to achieve the goal.

Throughout the season, Ceballos landed in the top-10 numerous times and finished in first place in two races. Her first came during the Coach Downey XC Classic where she snapped the tape with a mark of 20:04.1 with an average mile time of 6:27.5.

"With a great deal of patience and hard work during the last few months, Alexis was hungrier for success than ever," commented Coach Julio Jimenez. "Alexis is well deserving of the award and has earned it."
