The Long Beach City College men's and women's swimming & diving program hosted the Pasadena City College Lancers and the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners in conference action on Friday night in the Viking Aquatic Center under beautiful conditions. LBCC split on the day by defeating Rio Hondo by a combined total 339-141, but being edged by Pasadena by a combined score of 228.50-233.50.
On the men's side, it took the final relay of the day to defeat Pasadena, 134.5-124.5. They took care of Rio Hondo with ease, 225-44, to go 2-0 at the meet.
A gold-medal finish in the 400 Free Relay sealed the deal as freshman Ian Dretzka, freshman Timothy Nilan, freshman Shaun Spaulding, and freshman Ryan Sar completed the relay with a time of 3:23.9 which was four seconds better than the second-place finishing Pasadena.
Sophomore Mark Denison continued to make waves in the pool by earning a trio of first-place finishes. He started by touching the wall first in the 200 Free with a time of 1:48.01, backed by a 50 Free crown with a mark of 21.66. He finished his solo racing by standing atop the podium in the 100 Free with a time of 48.37.
Nilan hauled in a first-place showing in the 500 Free by earning a solid mark of 5:13.75. Sophomore Aaron Mowl was equally as impressive by earning two silver medals with the first one coming in the 100 Back at a time of 55.01. He finished by placing second in the 200 Back with a mark of 2:05.37.
Sar earned a second-place finish in the 200 Fly after earning a mark of 2:11.17, while freshman Andrew Ingram placed second in the 100 Breaststroke with a 1:07.21 time.
For the women, the Vikings edged the Roadrunners, 114-97, but fell to the Lancers, 94-109.
Freshman Samantha Wooley highlighted the efforts by earning two individual first place finishes and being part of one first-place relay. The relay came first as she paired up with freshman Cori Reynold, Lindsey Mizrahi, and Charli Chavarria to win the 200 Medley Relay at a time of 2:01.18.
Wooley continued on to place first in the 100 Back with a time of 1:03.84 and the 50 Free at a mark of 25.29. She capped her efforts with a time of 2:22.87 in the 200 Back to earn second place.
Reynolds placed second in the 200 Breaststroke with a mark of 2:51.23, while Mizrahi reigned supreme in the 100 Free by standing atop the podium with a time of 1:00.26.
The Vikings will continue action on Friday, March 24th by facing off against L.A. Trade Tech and El Camino in conference action at El Camino College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
