Sophomore starting pitcher Julian Griego (Poly HS) allowed one run over seven innings to help lead the Long Beach City College Vikings to a 6-3 non-conference win over visiting Victor Valley College on Tuesday at Joe Hicks Memorial Field. The victory improved Long Beach to 2-5 overall.

Griego (1-1) bounced back from a rough outing last week to record his first win of the season. He struck out a season-high eight batters and allowed just four hits.

Long Beach jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added another three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Sophomores Justin Davis (Mayfair HS) and Jake Harris (Lakewood HS) as well as freshmen Connor Steer (Millikan HS) and Jackson Foss (Wilson HS) all had RBI for the Vikings. Harris and freshman Anthony Timmons (Lakewood HS) both had two hits.

The Vikings are back in action on Thursday (Feb. 19) at 2 p.m. when they host Barstow College in a non-conference game.
