Long Beach Falls to No.1 Canyons 34-7

The Long Beach City College football team fell in their final home game of the 2018 season to the top-ranked College of the Canyons Cougars 34-7 on Saturday evening. With the loss, the Vikings drop to 4-5 overall, and 1-3 in conference action.

The Vikings were first on the board a four-yard rush from freshman running back Teshawn White to kick-start the conference game. Over the course of the game, White totaled 29 yards against the Cougars.

Freshman quarterback Jonathan Murphy held his own as he passed 187 yards with his longest being 36 yards and netted 50 yards in rushing.

On the offensive side, the Vikings netted 131 yards rushing. Long Beach also acquired over 100 total return yards and had two sacks against the Cougars for a total of 16 yards form freshmen defensive line Pierre Hayes and Marvin Boyd.

Freshman defensive back Jack Genova was the defensive leader as he garnered 10 total tackles.

The Vikings will return to action next Saturday, Nov. 10 at Ventura College at 6 p.m. for their final conference game.
