Vikings have four sign letters of intent during early period

Four members of the 2022 Long Beach City College football team have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year universities.

LBCC head coach Brett Peabody has announced that Thaddeus Dixon has signed with the University of Washington, Paul Edwards III will move on to Stephen F. Austin State University, Trennel Ridgely (St. Paul HS), is headed to Robert Morris University (PA), and Corey Martin (Serra HS) is taking his talents to Murray State University.

The four Viking student-athletes were joined by coaches, teammates, family, and the LBCC community at a signing ceremony on campus.

Dec. 21 marked the first day of the NCAA football mid-year junior college transfer period. As mid-year transfers, Dixon, Edwards, Ridgley, and Martin will be attending their respective new universities when classes resume for the upcoming spring semester.

"Congratulations to our four Division I mid-year signees," said Peabody. "These guys bet on themselves and chose the community college route. Their hard work has paid off, we are extremely proud of them."



Dixon, a sophomore cornerback originally from La Mirada High School, was a unanimous first-team SCFA All-Northern League selection for the Vikings this past season. He totaled 32 tackles and hauled in three interceptions.

Washington competes in the Pacific 12 Conference (Pac-12) and is located in Seattle.

Edwards, a sophomore cornerback from Narbonne High School, was named second-team All-Northern League for the Vikings. He had 26 tackles on the year with one interception.

Stephen F. Austin is located in Nacogdoches, Texas and competes as a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

Ridgley, a sophomore wide receiver from St. Paul High School, was a unanimous first-team All-Northern League selection and also earned second-team accolades at the all-purpose position. As a receiver, had 60 catches for 633 yards and seven touchdowns. Overall, he totaled 1,466 yards this season, including 644 on kick returns, 131 on punt returns, and 58 on rushes.

Robert Morris University is located in Moon Township, Pennsylvania and competes in the Northeast Conference.

Martin, a sophomore defensive end from Serra High School, had 49 total tackles and led the Northern League with 9.5 sacks.

Murray State is located in Murray, Kentucky and is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Peabody expects more Vikings from his 2022 squad to sign when the regular transfer period begins on Feb. 1.
