Men's Soccer: Long Beach can't hold lead in 2-1 loss to No. 17 LA Harbor

Freshman Jose Pineda (Compton HS) gave Long Beach City College a 1-0 lead just moments before halftime, but No. 17 nationally-ranked Los Angeles Harbor College pulled out the South Coast Conference win thanks to a pair of second-half goals by Jose Gonzalez to beat the Vikings 2-1 on Friday.

The physical contest was heavily officiated as the two teams combined for 31 fouls, eight yellow cards, and two red cards.

Freshman Jose Torres (Millikan HS) and Erik Carbajal (Lakewood HS) combined on a give-and go down the middle of the field before feeding Pineada for the Vikings' goal in the 42nd minute.

But Gonzalez tied the game in the 56th minute and put in the eventual game-winner for Harbor in the 80th minute.

Harbor edged Long Beach 13-12 in the final shots total as both Vikings' goalkeeper Luis Anguiano (Bellflower HS) and Seahawks goalie Bryan Hernandez posted five saves.

The Vikings will look to snap a two-game losing streak on Tuesday when they host Pasadena City College in a 4 p.m. SCC game.
