Vikings Take Down Rio Hondo 2-1

The Long Beach City College Vikings defeated the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners 2-1 on Friday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium. With the conference win, the Vikings advance to 6-8-3 overall and 3-2-1 in the South Coast Conference.

The game started slow for the Vikings as they battled the Roadrunners in the tough, dry heat. At halftime, both teams were scoreless.

After the break, the Vikings came back with a straight-shot goal from sophomore forward Sahleek Joubert with the assist from freshman forward Gustavo Cervantes. The Roadrunners returned the favor with their only goal in the 70th minute.

Sophomore midfielder Sergio Flores then sealed the 2-1 win for the Vikings with a penalty kick goal in the 82nd minute.

The Vikings will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at against Compton College at Veterans Memorial Stadium at 2 p.m.
