No. 2 Softball Holds Down Desert 5-1

The No. 2 Long Beach City College Softball team took down the College of the Desert Roadrunners with a 5-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Vikings advance to 20-5 overall.

Freshman pitcher Olivia Ramirez (4-1) earned the win in the circle, as she only allowed the Roadrunners to one run on six hits, while striking down eight in seven solid innings of work.

Freshman catcher Jaylene Ross was the first across the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning from an RBI ground out from freshman designated player Kirsten Sanchez. Ross was the stand out of the game as she went three-for-three at-bat, with two triples and had two runs for the Vikings.

Next across the plate in the bottom of the fourth was freshman first baseman Brianna Nunez from an RBI single from freshman second baseman Jennifer Aguilar.

The Roadrunners then scored one run in the top of the fifth. The Vikings were back in action in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double from sophomore third baseman Illeana Rivera, another run from Ross, and Rivera slid across on a wild pitch to seal the 5-1 win.

The Vikings will return to the field on Friday, March 25 against No. 1 Mount San Antonio College at 3 p.m. at Long Beach City College.
