No. 4 Softball Outshines ELAC on Sophomore Day

The No. 4 Long Beach City College softball team took down East Los Angeles College with a five-inning 10-2 win on Wednesday afternoon. This was the final game of the regular season for the Vikings. They finish out conference play in third place with a 15-6 record.

Sophomore pitcher Daisy Torres (21-8) was on fire as she only allowed the Huskies to two runs, one unearned, on five hits.

The Huskies were first on the board with a run in the first inning. The Vikings came out swinging in the bottom of the first by loading the bases. Sophomore Illeana Rivera sank an RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly from sophomore Noelany Benitez to lead the Huskies 2-1.

The Huskies tied the game up 2-2 in the top of the third, but the Vikings were ready to bring the bats in the bottom of the third.

Rivera walked in a run, and then was followed by a two RBI single from Kirsten Sanchez to extend the lead to 5-2.

In the fourth inning, the Vikings' offense was on fire as designated hitter Gladys Garcia, first baseman Brianna Nunez, and second baseman Jennifer Aguilar all hit RBI singles to continue their dominance at 8-2.

The Vikings concluded the game with two more runs from catcher Jaylene Ross and pinch runner Haley Veazie to end the game with the 10-2 conference victory.
