Softball’s Jaylene Ross Reels in the Awards

At the conclusion of the 2022 softball season, freshman catcher Jaylene Ross reeled in four major awards for her efforts in the 2022 playoff-winning season including the 2022 Diamond Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Catcher of the Year, California Community College Athletics Association All-State Team, NFCA First-Team All-American, and the South Coast Conference-South First-Team All-Conference.

"Jay is one of the best to ever represent Long Beach City College softball," said Head Coach Megan Martinez. "She is an absolute offensive powerhouse and is defensively unmatched."

During the season, Ross totaled 37 runs, on 71 hits with a .442 batting average and 29 RBIs. The team finished the season with a 29-13 overall record, and went 15-6 in the South Coast Conference. The Vikings were ranked No. 5 in Southern California and took down the Fullerton College Hornets in the SoCal Regional Playoffs to move on to the Super Regionals, where they finished their season.
