Title: Assistant Coach - Sprints/Middle Distance

Ron Allice returned to the Long Beach City College track & field program as assistant coach for the Sprints/Hurdles/Relays in 2022. He also serves as the lead Instructor for the Off-Season Track & Field Training Program.

Allice, a former Head Track & Field/Cross Country Coach with the Vikings, is a legendary and iconic figure in the sport of Track & Field who brings a wealth of knowledge to our men’s and women’s sprint teams. In his short time back with the program, Allice has already helped shape two CCCAA All-American Relay Teams for the women’s program, one in 2019 (400m relay) and one in 2022 (1600m relay). In 2022, he also helped Freshman Azjani McGill earn a State leading time of 20.87 in the 200 meters.

Allice, a Long Beach native began his career coaching a women's Amateur Athletic Union program, the Long Beach Comets. He helped shape and expand the program from just five girls, to over 150 competitors. After holding a graduate assistant position for Long Beach State, Allice was an assistant coach at Compton High School and then the head coach of the track & field and cross country teams at Wilson High School.

Shortly after, Allice went on to become head coach of track & field and cross country at his alma mater, Long Beach Poly for three years before becoming head coach of cross country and track & field at Cal Poly Pomona. He spent three seasons with the Broncos, winning two California Collegiate Athletic Association titles, and placing 5th and 6th at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) College Division II championships.

Allice spent the next five seasons as the track & field and cross country coach at Long Beach State. Though he was new to the Division I level, four of his teams placed in the nation's top 15 dual meets. Under his leadership, the track & field team earned one Pacific Coast Athletic Association (PCAA) title, while the cross country team won two PCAA titles.

Then Allice came to Long Beach City College to become the head coach for the track & field and cross country teams from 1979-1994, where he brought home 16 conference, 14 Southern California and 11 State championship titles. His programs have produced more than 313 All-Americans, 27 Olympians, four world record holders and seven American record holders. His teams won 78 out of 79 dual meets during his time at the helm.

After his time at LBCC, Allice went on to become the Director of Track & Field at the University of Southern California (USC) for 19 years. During his time at USC, Allice led the men's and women's programs to 25 NCAA top 20 finishes, with a 2001 NCAA women's team title and 32 individual NCAA titles. Allice retired from USC in 2013.

Since 2013, Allice began working with USA Track & Field in developing post-collegiate athletes into Olympic athletes. He also served as the Head Coach for the Men's National Team at the World Indoor Track & Field Championships in 2016.
