Coach Nunes will enter his fourth season with the Vikings in 2022.

Eduardo Nunes was hired as the head coach of the LBCC women’s soccer team in 2018. With his very first recruiting class in 2019, the team was back into the state rankings and into regional playoffs. Although Covid suspended the 2020 season, it could not stop the progress being made by the LBCC women’s soccer program. LBCC has advanced to regionals for consecutive seasons and has been ranked as high as 11th in the state.

Prior to coaching at LBCC, Nunes had been coaching club and high school soccer locally for over 25 years. For the last 13 years, he has coached at Beach FC where his teams have won multiple State Cups and a National Championship. In 2017 Eduardo was also recognized by Cal South with an Excellence in Soccer Award. In high school soccer, Eduardo got his career started at Saint Joseph High School before coaching at Mayfair High. At Mayfair, he was part of a program that won two CIF Championships in three finals appearances. In between his two coaching stints at Mayfair, Eduardo spent five years coaching at Los Alamitos High School. Every one of those high school teams made the playoffs and numerous players went on to play college soccer.

As the head coach of the women’s soccer team at LBCC, coach Nunes focuses on player experience: “I’m convinced that if players are enjoying their experience at LBCC, then they will be successful in the classroom and on the field.” Coach Nunes believes that the formula to that success is to challenge his players and then to support them along the way. “Long Beach City College has everything a student-athlete needs to be successful, and as coaches, we educate our players on how to use their resources.” Since his first year at LBCC, coach Nunes has had multiple players receive academic and athletic scholarships to four-year schools. One recent example was Allison Rose Veloz, who received an athletic scholarship to play in Division I for Northern Arizona University.

In addition to coaching multiple players that went on to college soccer programs and national teams, Eduardo had the pleasure of coaching current USA Women’s National Team player Alex Morgan for four years. This is one of the major highlights in his career as Alex is a role model for his current players and millions all over the world. Prior to the National Championship game with his G04 team, Alex met his team for an inspirational pep talk. “It’s those moments that reveal why I love coaching so much.”

Coach Nunes graduated from Saint John Bosco High School before graduating from Cal State Fullerton with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Information Systems.

In the summer of 2022, he completed his masters program at Cal Baptist University. He now holds a master of science in kinesiology and will continue to forward his education.

Eduardo and his wife Tricia currently reside in La Habra with their two children. In the little free time he has, coach enjoys taking his kids to their different practices. “As much as I want them to play soccer, I really enjoy watching them try different things like parkour and gymnastics. I want my kids to find their own passion, and I look forward to supporting them in whatever they pursue.”
