Passing of Former Hall of Champions Inductee and Baseball Coach, Bob Myers

Long Beach City College Athletics is sad to announce the recent passing of Bob Myers, former LBCC athlete and coach, and Hall of Champions Inductee.

Coach Myers was the LBCC head baseball coach from 1976-1981 and was an assistant coach for nine seasons (1970-75, 1991-93, 1997). In his first season as head coach in 1976, he led the Vikings to a state championship and was named state coach of the year.

1976 marked the first of three straight conference titles as well as three straight top-four finishes at the state championships (third, 1997; fourth, 1978). Prior to coaching, Myers was a member of the 1945 LBCC football team and the 1946 baseball team.

"I will miss Bob tremendously," said Head Coach Casey Crook. "He was a good friend, a family man, and a man of strong faith. Bob was both a great head coach and assistant coach at multiple levels of baseball; high school, community college, and four-year college. That is not easy to do. He did it easily. He famously played minor league ball with Hall of Famer Willie Mays. With all of the lives that Bob personally touched through baseball, I think he may have been more important to the game than Willie Mays. He has certainly left a legacy in Long Beach that will live on."

Coach Myers has been married to his long-time love, Viv for 55 years. Coach Myers will be missed by many including his children Chris, Glen, Brad, Shelly, Vicki and Bobby. Grandchildren Ashley, Chance, Paige, Dylin, Summer, and Ian. Great Grandchildren Logan and Quinn.

Service for Coach Myers will be on Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m. at the LBCC Baseball Field.
