No. 3 LBCC Men's Volleyball Pushes Past No. 9 Santa Barbara in Four Sets

The No. 3 Long Beach City College Vikings took to their home hardwood on Friday night to face off against the No. 9 Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros. The Vikings were one set away from completing the match-sweep, but it took four sets to take down the Vaqueros with final set scores reading 25-21, 25-14, 21-25, and 25-17.

Long Beach featured a well-balanced attack on offense while playing excellent defense. Freshman outside hitter Cyrus Fa'aloga (Salt Lake City, UT) paced the Vikings with 13 kills off 21 total attempts to earn a hitting percentage of .524. He also rose up for four block assists. Freshman opposite Noah Taitano (Carson, CA) found himself in double-digit kills as well by firing home 10 kills and recording two block assists.

Sophomore outside hitter Travis O'Gorman (East Northport, NY) and freshman opposite hitter Steven Rotter (La Palma, CA) each hammered the hardwood for seven kills each, while sophomore middle Eli Garcia (Bellflower, CA) and sophomore middle Elai Mama (Moreno Valley, CA) each recorded six kills.

Sophomore setter Jayce Ashment (Gilbert, AZ) recorded a season-high 29 assists to go along with a trio of digs. Sophomore setter Gary Trejo (Downey, CA) chipped in on the assisting action by dishing out a total of 19 assists.

The Vikings (3-2) will face off against the No. 2 Orange Coast College Pirates at home Wednesday, February 15th at 6 p.m.
