Cross Country Places in SoCal Regional Preview at El Dorado Park

The men's cross country team placed 14th out of 27 scoring teams, while the women placed 15th this past weekend at the SoCal Regional Preview in El Dorado Park. Sophomore Riki Moscoso led the Vikings with a 30th overall position, out of 263 participants. Moscoso was able to break the 21-minute barrier with a lifetime best time of 20:56.6 in the 4-mile race. Freshman Joshua Jung was second for the Vikings taking 35th overall with an improved season-best time of 21:10.9. Moscoso and Jung were followed by a pack of Vikings to round out the scoring team that included sophomore Leonardo Acevedo (23:00.9), freshman Nico Nance (23:55.5), freshman Louis Mazariegos (24:58.9) and freshman Franklyn Taylor (25:09.2).

On the women's side, sophomores Katlyn Moratoya and Lorena Galaviz lead the Vikings with a couple of personal best times. Moratoya runs 21:48.6, while Galaviz runs 21:55.0 to take 55th and 56th overall in a field of 170 participants. Sophomore Frida Hernandez (22:50.8), sophomore Mel Moreno (25:54.0), and sophomore Morgan Venable (27:49.8) each improve on their times as well in this preview to round out as a scoring team in this competition.

The Viking teams will compete next Saturday at the Master's Invitational located in Santa Clarita. Race start time for the men is 7:30 a.m. and the women's race start time is at 8:15 a.m.
