No. 7 Softball Takes Down No. 6 Cerritos 6-2

The No. 7 Long Beach City College softball team defeated the No. 6 Cerritos College Falcons 6-2 on Thursday evening to seal the conference series victory. With the win, the Vikings hold on to second place in the South Coast Conference with a 13-5 record.

Sophomore pitcher Daisy Torres (18-8) was phenomenal in the circle as she only allowed the Falcons to two runs on six hits, while striking down four in seven solid innings of work.

The Falcons were first on the board with two runs in the first inning to lead the Vikings 2-0.

Freshman designated player Gladys Garcia shined at the plate for the Vikings as she smashed a double to right field to score in freshman pinch runner Jasmine Delgado.

Then in the sixth inning with sophomore third baseman Ileana Rivera and sophomore short stop Jade Wittman on first and second, and Garcia knocked another one out of the ballpark over the field field fence to raise the Vikings over the Falcons 4-2.

The Vikings continued the rally with RBI singles from freshman center fielder Alia Marquez and freshman right fielder Kirstin Sanchez to bring the Vikings up to six runs and finish the game with the 6-2 win over the Falcons.

The Vikings will be back in action on Friday, April 15 against College of Canyons in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
