Women's Cross Country Takes Third at South Coast Conference Championships

The Long Beach City College cross-country teams participated in the South Coast Conference Championships over the weekend. The women's team took home third place in the women's 5k and the men's team placed fifth overall in the four mile-run.

Sophomore Donovan Zavala placed the highest for the men's team with 15th place and a time of 23:06.6. Freshman Jonathan Ruiz was close behind him in 27th place with a 23:57.2 time. Following Ruiz were sophomores Evan Ridgeway with a 24:33.5 and Esteban Almaraz with a 24:47.1

On the women's team, sophomore Dasani Zavala placed the highest for the Vikings in the 11th spot with a 23:00.1 time. Freshman Amaya Ferris was up next in the 15th slot with a 23:40.8. Freshman Vanessa Washington rounded out the top 20 in the 19th spot with a 24:13.9.

The cross-country teams will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Southern California Regionals at Mission Bay Park in San Diego.
