Where Are They Now? Chuck McFerrin

Where Are They Now? Chuck McFerrin

The Long Beach City College Athletic Department would like to debut a new release series that features Vikings from the past that have contributed to the Athletic Department in various significant ways and what they are doing now.

The first Viking to be featured is no other than former Men's Athletics Director, Chuck McFerrin.

McFerrin served as the Associate Men's Student Advisor from 1981-1989, and as an economics instructor from 1981-2001, before becoming the Men's Athletics Director from 1990-2003.

McFerrin considers participating in the management of an athletic department that was very successful on and off the field and establishing the Hall of Champions as his greatest accomplishment while at LBCC. He initiated the idea of the LBCC Hall of Champions and formed a committee of outstanding administrators and coaches (current and retired) to build out the gymnasium foyer, produce a constitution, and develop a selection process and banquet. You can check out his induction as a Hall of Champions recipient here

When asked what he missed the most from LBCC Athletics, he responded that misses the relationships with athletic department staff and athletes, along with assisting the student-athletes in their sport and life development.

So where is Chuck McFerrin now?

McFerrin is retired and still the current Chairman of the Hall of Champions. Since retirement, McFerrin has been pursuing hobbies such as woodworking, continuing the Hall of Champions traditions and travelling.

He states that the best thing about retirement is being in control of your day's agenda and spending more time with family- especially grandchildren. For the future, he plans to be active, stay informed and to be available to others.
