Vikings Athletic Week in Review- 12/6/2021: Men’s Basketball Wins at Home, Women’s Basketball travels to Allan Hancock Tournament

Football- Football Boasts 18 All-Conference Players

At the conclusion of the season, the Long Beach City College football team saw 18 athletes receive Southern California Football Association National Division All-Northern League post-season honors.

The Vikings earned five second-team defensive honors with freshman defensive line Allen Parrish, freshman defensive line Xavier Cousar, freshman defensive end Corey Martin, sophomore cornerback De'Jon Vanhook and freshman cornerback Trey Edwards III. Honorable mentions went to sophomore safety Jayden (JD) Davis and sophomore linebacker Clavon Caine.

Davis led the team with 41 total tackles and averaged five tackles per game, had one interception and had three breakups. Parrish totaled 30 tackles, and had four sacks for a loss of 18 yards, while Cousar tallied 33 tackles and four sacks for a loss of 28 yards. Martin had 23 tackles and 5.5 sacks for a loss of 34 yards, while Vanhook had two interceptions for 33 yards, and Edwards had 22 tackles and one huge interception for 48 yards.

For first-team offensive accolades, the Vikings boasted sophomore tight end TJ Easter, sophomore center Matt Barcot and freshman all-purpose Rodney Clemente Jr. Honorable mentions went to freshman kicker Ryder Padilla, freshman offensive lineman Fiti Moe, freshman kick return specialist Trenell Ridgley.

As a tight end, Easter accumulated 71 receiving yards and averaged 14 yards pergame. Clemente Jr. was key to the Vikings offense as he averaged 49.8 yards rushed per game and he totaled 398 yards for the entire season. Rounding out the First-Team offensive picks was Barcot for his work on the offensive line.

Also on the line that garnered second-team offensive honors was sophomore Josh Manuma and freshman Mase Suaava. Sophomore running back Saeed Galloway led the team with 450 yards on the ground, averaged 50 yards per game, and had five touchdowns for the Vikings. Sophomore wide receiver Zack Leets led the team in the air with 26 receptions for 429 yards, and had five touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Derrach West finalized his season with 1033 passing yards, 349 rushing yards, and four touchdowns.

The Vikings will return to the field next Fall.

Women's Soccer- Veloz and Skrumbis Selected for Sophomore Showcase at Mt. SAC

Sophomore forwards Allison Rose Veloz and Jennifer Skrumbis have been selected to play in the CCCSCA sophomore showcase at Mt. San Antonio College last Saturday, Dec. 4.

The showcase is in conjuction with the CCCAA men's and women's State Championship, which is being held at Mt. SAC on Dec. 3rd and 5th. Players register for the showcase at 11:30 a.m. and will play in one of the four 45 minute games.

This past season, Veloz earned the top award of the South Coast Conference as the Offensive Player of the Year as she led the conference with 20 goals and had 9 assists. She has been a consistent threat to her opponents and a huge offensive asset for the Vikings this season.

Sophomore forward Skrumbis was named to the All-Conference Second-Team honors list for her offensive efforts. She was always a dependable teammate and was the catalyst behind seven Vikings' goals. The women's soccer team will return next Fall.
 


Men's Basketball- Vikings Dominate Canyons 64-55 at Home

The Long Beach City College Vikings men's basketball team took down the College of the Canyons Cougars 64-55 on Tuesday evening in the Hall of Champions. With the win, the Vikings go to 3-4 overall.

The Vikings were dominate all game by leading the first half 33-26, then in the second half by outshooting the Cougars 31-29.

Freshman guard Lorenzo Marsh was the star on the court by leading the Vikings with 22 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five steals. Marsh was quick at the rim and hit the three's from the outside.

Freshman forward Shane Hunter also tallied seven rebounds against the Cougars and was a force in the paint with 11 points.

The Vikings were back in action over the weekend in the Wild West Shootout at West LA College. The Vikings lost to San Bernardino Valley College 100-58 in their first game of the tournament, but then bounced back with an overtime 59-57 win against LA Valley College. In the final game of the tournament, the Vikings defeated Moorpark 81-62, and at the end of the tournament, sophomore guard Khieem Williams earned All-Tournament Player.

Women's Basketball

The Vikings participated in the Toys for Tots Tournament at Allan Hancock College over the weekend. In their first game against Santa Barbara City College, the Vikings dominated 88-46, and then in game two of the weekend, the Vikings fell to Fresno City College 78-77. In the final game of the tournament, the Vikings defeated Folsom Lake 80-55. With the wins, the Vikings hold on to a 8-3 overall record 

Freshman guard Amanda Lopez and freshman wing Aaliyah Carter both totaled 45 points each for the weekend.

The Vikings will return to the court on Friday, Dec. 10 at LA Valley College for the Buddy's All Star Classic.
