Passing of Long-Time Colleague and Softball Coach, Marv Miller

Courtesy of LBCC Communications:

It is with sadness, we announce the passing of long-time colleague Marvin (Marv) Miller.

A dominating student-athlete in the 1960s, he attended Long Beach City College beginning in 1965 and graduated in 1970.

In 1988, he was hired at LBCC as the softball coach, the Human Performance Lab Director, and as an adjunct Physical Education Instructor.

He was hired as a full-time faculty member in August of 1998 and built the LBCC Fitness and Wellness Center along with late colleague, John Smith. Even after retirement in 2021, Marv would be seen on campus working out, walking through Heartwell Park and enjoying lunch at the Bistro. LBCC was fortunate that he returned as an adjunct in February of 2022.

"Marv will be missed not only by everyone that works in the kinesiology department, but by faculty and staff campus-wide. He has been a stalwart of the department for decades, even after retiring," said Baseball Head Coach Casey Crook. "He will be remembered as someone who could teach various courses and connect with students as well as colleagues. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and son."

Please feel free to donate toward a scholarship in memory of Marvin Miller and all he did for LBCC, through the LBCC Foundation.

LBCC will share memorial information if it is made available.
