Baseball: Former Viking Lance Breedlove earns All-Big Ten honors at Purdue

Former Long Beach City College standout pitcher Lance Breedlove continued his impressive senior season at Purdue University and was recently named to the postseason All-Big Ten Conference second team.

Breedlove was one of eight Boilermakers to earn all-conference honors after Purdue captured its first Big Ten Conference championship since 1909. Breedlove was the winning pitcher in Purdue's conference-clinching victory after tossing seven innings of one-hit ball on May 12 against the University of Michigan.

Breedlove is a three-time Big Ten Pitcher of the Week winner, the first Boiler to accomplish the feat and the first pitcher in the league to do so since 2009. He did not surrender a run while he was physically on the mound in his four starts at Purdue's Lambert Field this year. He went the distance in his first two Big Ten starts of the year, posting wins against Ohio State and Penn State while becoming the first Boiler to work consecutive complete games since 2009. He struck out a career-high 11 in his season-opening start.

Purdue is currently ranked No. 18 in the nation and is the top seed in this weekend's Big Ten Conference tournament. Breedlove is schedule to start tonight (May 25) in Purdue's second-round game against No. 2 seed Indiana University. Breedlove takes a 7-5 overall record and 3.06 ERA into the contest.

At LBCC, Breedlove earned first-team All-South Coast Conference honors as a sophomore for the Vikings in 2010. He compiled a 2-3 record with a 2.28 ERA in conference action and closed the season with a 2-4 overall record and 3.00 ERA.
