Three members of the 2014 Long Beach City College baseball team have been named to the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association (CCCBCA) Academic All-State Team. Sophomore Nolan Flashman (University HS), Sean Hale (Marina HS), and Nick Wood (St. John Bosco HS) all earned a grade point average above 3.50 to earn the honor.

"Nick, Sean and Nolan are each fine young men that came to LBCC with strong academic goals in place," said LBCC head coach Casey Crook. "Clearly their hard work is paying off."

In baseball, players define the success of their season on their statistics and averages. Flashman, Wood, and Hale have been standouts on the field for the Vikings, but also put up big numbers in the classroom last spring and during the recently completed 2013 fall semester.

Flashman turned in a 3.74 GPA to be one of seven infielders named to the team while Wood at 3.75 and Hale at 3.62 join a list of 20 pitchers from throughout the state to earn the honor.

"I'm extremely proud of the dedication these student-athletes have shown in the classroom," said Joe Cascio, Director of Athletics. "Coach Crook has established a culture of academic excellence within his program, and these guys are a shining example of what it truly means to be a student-athlete."
