Baseball: LBCC to honor 2006 state championship team on April 16

Long Beach City College Baseball will honor its 2006 state championship team before its game on Saturday, April 16 against rival Cerritos College to mark the 10-year anniversary of its record-setting season. Members of the 2006 team will be introduced before the 12 p.m. South Coast Conference game at Joe Hicks Memorial Field at LBCC.

The 2006 Vikings won a school-record 41 games on its way to a 41-10 overall record and its first state championship since 1976. Head coach Casey Crook was named the American Baseball Coaches Association Coach of the Year as well as state coach of the year.

LBCC was led by All-American Tommy Peale. The 2006 Southern California Player and Pitcher of the Year compiled an amazing 16-0 overall record and had a 1.48 earned run average his sophomore season. He struck out 90 and walked just 18 in 127 2/3 innings. At the plate, he was second on the squad with a .341 batting average. Peale totaled 60 hits, 26 runs, 8 doubles, 2 homeruns, and 29 RBI.

Long Beach captured a South Coast Conference title and beat Sacramento City College in the state championship final in Fresno.
