Vikings Battle Hard but Fall to No. 5 Golden West in Close 31-24 Showdown
The VIkings faced off against No. 5 GWC in a hard-fought contest.
The No. 15-ranked Long Beach City College (LBCC) football team faced off against No. 5 Golden West College in a hard-fought contest on a rainy Saturday evening, ultimately falling short in a 31-24 defeat.
The Rustlers struck first, opening the game with a touchdown in the first quarter. In the second quarter, LBCC responded with a field goal from Eric Zavala, narrowing the deficit to 7-3. Golden West answered with their own field goal to close the half with a 10-3 lead.
In the third quarter, Golden West extended their lead with another touchdown. However, the Vikings rallied as wide receiver Norvell (PJ) Holmes connected on a 27-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jett Peddy, bringing the score to 17-10.
The Vikings' offense ignited further in the fourth quarter with a 73-yard touchdown catch by wide receiver Semaj Dunn, putting pressure on the Rustlers. Golden West responded with back-to-back touchdowns to secure their advantage, but LBCC continued to push. Wide receiver Tyson Bordeaux capped the Vikings' efforts with a 41-yard touchdown reception from Peddy, showcasing a resilient offensive drive.
On defense, Deon Rebers led the Vikings with nine total tackles, followed closely by Cordae Jones and defensive end Carson Moore, each contributing six tackles.
LBCC will return to the field next Saturday, November 9, to face Mt. San Antonio College at 6 p.m.
