Trio of Men's Basketball Players Earn All-Conference Accolades

It was recently announced by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) that a trio of Long Beach City College men's basketball players were named to the South Coast Conference (SCC) – South All-Conference teams. Sophomore point guard Breamon Richard (Los Angeles, CA) earned First-Team All-Conference recognition, while freshman guards William English (Long Beach, CA) and Charles Smith (Downey, CA) hauled in Second-Team All-Conference laurels.

Richard was phenomenal during his two-year stint with the Vikings and caps his Long Beach career off with his second-consecutive all-conference nod. The savvy veteran had a knack for the dramatic by hitting clutch shots and scoring at will. While starting in every game he played, Richard never failed to score less than 10 points in a game which equaled a 26 game double-digit scoring streak. He finished with 20+ points 15 times on the season with a season-high of 28 points coming twice in games against Chaffey College and Cypress College. Richard ranked second in the SCC-South and 10th in the CCCAA in points-per-game with a mark of 20.4. Additionally, Richard recorded two double-doubles on the season in a win over College of the Desert (24 points, 12 assists) and a loss against L.A. Harbor College (22 points, 10 assists).

English acted as the most dynamic sixth man in the SCC-South in earning his all-conference nod. English, who only started in two games but participated in 19, was a sparkplug for the offensive by averaging 13.6 points-per-game off the bench. The freshman held a 30.5 three-point percentage and buried a total of 39 shots beyond the arc – 29 being drained in conference play. He had a knack for finding the lane and finishing at the hoop. He found himself at the charity stipe multiple times to earn an 89.9 shooting percentage (47-for-56) from the line. English landed in double-digit scoring 10 times on the year highlighted by a massive 36-point outburst in a 109-98 win over El Camino.

Smith rounds out the trio of all-conference honorees by earning second-team recognition in his first season with the Vikings. Smith was the silent assassin for Long Beach by quietly landing in double-digit scoring 11 times on the season. Smith held a six-game double-digit scoring streak in the middle part of the season and never looked back. Smith had a career-game in a win over College of the Desert by dropping 15 points and hauling in 10 boards to record a double-double. Smith could do it all on the offensive end which included hitting four three pointers on two separate occasions.

The Vikings finished the season with a record of 7-19 and a conference mark of 3-7.
