The Long Beach City College men's soccer team scored a goal in each half and kept El Camino College Compton Center out of the net to post a 2-0 South Coast Conference win on Tuesday at LBCC.

LBCC's first SCC victory of the season improved their record to 3-4-4 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play.

Sophomore Alex Martinez (Artesia HS) got the Vikings on the board with his goal in the 45th minute. He took a pass from freshman Osvaldo Yanez (Los Alamitos HS) and rocketed his shot to the top left corner of goal to send Long Beach into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

LBCC immediately continued the offensive pressure in the second half and in the 47th minute got a goal from Jose Garcia (Artesia HS). Yanez earned his second assist as he sent a cross pass to Garcia that he one-timed to the back of the net.

Yanez nearly got in on the scoring but his breakaway shot hit the post.

Freshman Daniel DeHaro (Cabrillo HS) posted five saves in goal for the Vikings to earn his second shutout of the season.

Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Oct. 17) when it travels to No. 4 nationally-ranked Mt. San Antonio College for a SCC game.
