Men’s Volleyball: Long Beach opens conference play with 3-1 win at Santa Barbara

Long Beach City College pushed its winning streak to eight matches thanks to its 3-1 win at Santa Barbara City College on Wednesday in both teams' Western State Conference opener. LBCC dropped the first set 18-25 before surging to 25-17, 26-24, and 25-19 victories to pull out the match win.

The Vikings improved to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play while Santa Barbara dropped to 5-3 and 0-1.

Freshman Andrew Pearson (Huntington Beach HS) led Long Beach with a season-high 23 kills. He hit .333 on the night and added 10 digs. Sophomore Joshua Nehls (Warren HS) totaled 14 kills while freshman Jayce Ashment (Gilbert, AZ/Highland HS) had 35 assists. Liberos Jordan Molina (Carson HS) and Austin Amian (Kaneohe, HI/Moanalua HS) combined for 23 digs.

Long Beach returns to action on Wednesday (Mar. 9) when the Vikings travel to Pierce College for a 6 p.m. WSC match.
