Men’s Cross Country: Vikings moving up with 11th place finish at OCC Classic

The Long Beach City College men's cross country team totaled 327 points to finish in 11th place at the highly competitive Orange Coast Classic at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa on Saturday. The event also served as the Southern California Preview meet, which gives teams the chance to see how they stack up against each other prior to the regional championship.

The Vikings faced a grueling course with temperatures reaching 100 degrees at the 10 am start time. LBCC was once again led by the duo of sophomores Michael Delgado (pictured, right) and Pedro Cruz (left).

Delgado cleared the four-mile course with a time of 22:08.09 for 41st place. Cruz wasn't far behind in 47th place, clocking in at 22:20.01.

Other times for the Vikings included Justin Weaver at 23:09.83 (78th place), Michael Wooten with 23:28.51 (91st), Dallas Coble at 23:39.09 (100th), Brandon Willett with 24:39.70 (132nd), and Andrew Felix at 26:45.41 (164th).

Also in a non-scoring overflow race, Andy Garcia ran 24:23.55 followed by Andrew Harris with 25:15.63, and Jerry Toliver at 25:55.30.

American River College won the event with an amazing team total of 23 points. Munir Kahssay of Cerritos College won the men's event with a time of 20:38.05.

LBCC is off next week and returns to action September 28 at the Crystal Springs Invitational in Belmont.
