Freshman Doreen Corella (San Pedro HS) went 2 for 3 with a triple and 3 RBI while sophomore Mary Gonzales (Bannings HS) allowed just two hits and struck out nine in a six-inning, 8-0 Long Beach City College win over visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Tuesday.

The South Coast Conference win snapped a six-game losing streak and improved LBCC to 6-16 overall and 4-7 in conference play.

The Vikings tied a season-high with 14 hits in the contest. Freshman Andrea Barba's (Cypress HS) RBI single gave Long beach a 1-0 lead in the second inning before the Vikings added three more in the third. Corella's two-run triple down the right-field line put Long Beach ahead 3-0 just before freshman Vanessa Valdez (Lakewood HS) followed  with a single to drive her in.

Long Beach exploded for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to invoke the eight-run mercy rule. Corella and Valdez added RBI singles while freshman Brianna Alvarez (Montebello HS) and Gabrielle De La Vega (Redondo Union HS) also drove in runs.

The Vikings play their next 11 games on the road, including Thursday's (Mar. 19) 3 p.m. SCC game at Mt. San Antonio College. LBCC returns home on April 2 to host Cerritos College.
