Softball: Alvarez, Gonzales earn All-South Coast Conference postseason honors

Long Beach City College freshman Brianna Alvarez (Montebello HS) and sophomore Mary Gonzales (Banning HS) have both been named to the 2015 All-South Coast Conference postseason softball team. Alvarez was a first-team selection at shortstop while Gonzales earned second-team honors at pitcher.

Alvarez was fourth on the Vikings with a .331 overall batting average, but hit an impressive .441 over 21 conference games. In SCC play, she led Long Beach with 30 hits, 16 runs, and five stolen bases.

Gonzales earned all-conference honors for the second consecutive season for the Vikings. She paced Long Beach in the circle and at the plate. Pitching in an extremely competitive South Coast Conference, Gonzales compiled a 6-9 record and a 4.10 earned run average. At the plate, she was third on the Vikings with a .357 SCC batting average. She hit six doubles, scored 14 runs, and had eight RBI.

Long Beach recently wrapped up the 2015 season with a 14-25-1 overall record. The Vikings finished seventh in the SCC at 7-14.
