Women’s Volleyball: LBCC comes alive too late in loss to No. 13 Golden West

The Long Beach City College women's volleyball team suffered a three-set sweep at the hands of visiting Golden West College on Wednesday in its 2011 home opener.

The loss dropped Long Beach to 3-5 overall while Golden West improved to 5-3.

Long Beach went down 25-15 and 25-9 in the opening sets, but made No. 13 state-ranked Golden West earn the sweep by falling 26-24 in the third.

The Vikings actually held a 20-11 lead in the third and looked like they would force a fourth after holding set point at 24-22. But Golden West scored the next four points to pull out the win.

Freshman outside hitter Doreen Iosua led the Vikings with nine kills and freshman outside hitter Danielle Tuitasi added eight kills. Sophomore setter Kelsey Dix posted 13 assists.

Long Beach returns to action on Friday night (Sep 30) when it opens South Coast Conference play with a 6 pm match against No. 6 state-ranked Pasadena City College.
