Former LBCC Baseball Player Evan May-Thomas Named CCCAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year
It was recently announced by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) that former Long Beach City College baseball standout Evan Thomas-May (Buena Park, CA) was selected as the 2015-16 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year following an incredible year on and off the diamond.
May was a pillar of academic success in representing LBCC athletics by obtaining a nearly perfect grade-point-average and competing at a high level on the field. Through his two-year playing career, May chucked 199.1 innings and accumulated 76 punch-outs while averaging 5.73 strikeouts per nine innings. He was extremely diverse in his pitching roles by acting as a starter and coming out of the bullpen in relief. He climbed the hill for 11 wins and earned three saves. His talents earned him a full-ride scholarship to Hawaii Pacific University.
Aside from his accomplishments on the field, he was an active member in the Long Beach community. May lent a helping hand at numerous shelters for abused women and children and chipped in at restoration projects at both the Los Cerritos Wetlands in Long Beach and the Kumuloa Foundation Farm in Hawaii. He also coached youth baseball during his two years at LBCC.
Joining May on the CCCAA Scholar-Athlete recognition list is former women's swimmer Payton Ballard (Lakewood, CA) and the 2015-16 men's water polo team who earned a team grade-point-average of 3.14.
