Vikings Swimming & Diving Earns a Pair of First-Place Showings in Conference-Opening Meet

The Long Beach City College men's and women's swimming & diving teams hosted the first conference meet of the year at the Viking Aquatic Center Friday afternoon that featured the Cerritos College Falcons and the Chaffey College Panthers. Long Beach was dominant in the pool with the Vikings producing a combined total of 16 first-place showings. The men reigned supreme against Cerritos (194-50) and Chaffey (142-109), while the women followed suit defeating Chaffey (141-50) and Cerritos (143-90) in commanding fashion.

For the men, a 200 Medley Relay set the tone with freshman Aaron Mowl, Andrew Ingram, Ryan Sar, and Mark Denison hauled in a top-finish with a time of 1:44.19.

Denison continued to produced solid results by finishing first in the 200 Free (1:48.64), 50 Free (22.06), and the 100 Free (48.80). Mowl followed suit by standing atop the podium in the 100 Back (55.08) while hauling in second place in the 200 Back (2:06.32).

Freshman Myles Martinez impressed in the distance event by touching the wall first in the 500 Free (5:19.64) and placing second in the 1000 Free (11:03.74) by a mere second. Freshman Shaun Spalding earned a top finish in the 200 Fly (2:12.68), backed by a third-place finish from Sar (2:19.73).

The men capped off their day with a top spot in the 400 Free Relay with Spalding, Martinez, Ingram, and freshman Luke Abell earning a time of 3:37.70.

For the women, three first-place finishes by freshman Samantha Wooley paced the Vikings as she earned gold in the 100 Back (1:05.35), 50 Free (25.48), and 100 Free (58.18). She was a part of a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay that consisted of freshman Cori Reynolds, freshman Victoria Johnson, and freshman Lindsey Mizrahi with a mark reading 2:03.49.

Reylonds continued to impress by placing first in the 100 Breaststroke (1:16.69) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:51.73). Mizrahi earned a trio of second-place finishes in the 200 Free (2:14.84), the 200 IM (2:34.50) and the 500 Free (6:13.47). Johnson followed suit with a two second-place finishes in the 200 Fly (1:20.42) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:26.02).

The Vikings will travel to Cuesta, CA to compete in the Cuesta Invitational beginning Friday, March 10th in an all-day meet.
