Men's Basketball- Men's Basketball Defeats LA Harbor at Home


The Long Beach City College men's basketball team took down the LA Harbor College Seahawks 96-87 on Wednesday evening in their fifth conference game of the season. With the win, the Vikings advance to 10-10 overall and 3-2 in the South Coast Conference.

The Vikings outshot the Seahawks in the first half 39-36 and again in the second half 57-51. Freshman guard Lorenzo Marsh was the star on the court with 23 points for the Vikings and tallied eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Khieem Williams had the only double double for the Vikings with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman forward Shane Hunter was all over the court as he scored 17 points to round out the top three shooters of the game.

The Vikings will be back on the court on Wednesday, Feb. 9 against LA Southwest in the Hall of Champions at 5 p.m.

Women's Basketball- Vikings Take Down LA Harbor 107-45

The Long Beach City College Vikings defeated the LA Harbor Seahawks 107-45 in conference action on Wednesday evening in the Hall of Champions. With the win, the Vikings are 13-6 overall and 2-1 in the South Coast Conference.

The Vikings were steady from the start of the game as they led the Seahawks 18-14 in the first quarter and then 45-28 in the second quarter. The Vikings narrowed in during the second half, fouled out a few Seahawks along the way and finished the game with the 107-45 win.

Freshman wing player Aaliyah Carter led the team with the double double of 24 points and 21 rebounds. Sophomore wing Navi Huskey was right behind her with 19 points and 17 rebounds. Freshman guard Amanda Lopez also shined on the court with 17 points and seven assists.

The Vikings will return to the court on Wednesday, Feb.9 against LA Southwest in the Hall of Champions at 7 p.m..

Softball- Vikings Split Doubleheader, End with a Walk-Off Win

The Long Beach City College Vikings split their doubleheader against LA Mission last Friday. The Vikings fell in the first game, but then came back and took down LA Mission with a 2-1 walk-off win.

Sophomore first baseman Jade Wittman was the star of the show in the second game as she had three hits and two runs for the Vikings win.

Sophomore pitcher Daisy Torres (2-1) earned her second win in the circle as she only allowed LA Mission to six hits that game.

The Vikings will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 8 against East Los Angeles College for their second South Coast Conference game at 3 p.m.at the Vikings Softball Complex.

Baseball- Errant Throw Leads to Vikings Walk-off Win

The Long Beach City College Vikings took down the LA Valley Monarchs 11-10 in a thrilling walk-off win on Thursday afternoon in the first game of the SoCal Challenge Tournament.

Freshman pitcher Marcellus Henry (1-0) took the win on the mound with only allowing the Monarchs to two runs on three hits while striking out two in the final two innings.

The Vikings were first on the board in the bottom of the first as freshman third baseman Justin Santoyo got hit by a pitch, which led to freshman first baseman Matthew Pinal walking in the first run of the game.

The Monarchs took over the second and third innings by adding three runs on the board, but the Vikings started to creep in the bottom of the third with an RBI triple from freshman shortstop Alex Seguine and brought in freshman designated hitter Ryan Guerero, and then freshman second baseman Kamau Neighbors hit an RBI single bring Seguine home.

In the fourth inning, Guerero and Sanders scored on a Monarchs error to take back the lead 5-4.

The Monarchs then scored off a single to right field in the top of the fifth to tie the game 5-5, but the Vikings were back for another rally in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman catcher Malik Clayton capitalized on another Monarch throwing error and scored, then Sanders was batted by an RBI ground out from Guerero. In the sixth inning, Neighbors hit another RBI single to score in freshman left fielder Raul Garcia to lead 8-5.

The Monarchs tied the game again 8-8 in the seventh inning with an RBI single and 2 RBI double.

In the bottom of the eighth, Guerero smashed a double to center field for 2 RBI to lead the Monarchs again 10-8, but LA Valley rallied one more time in the ninth inning with a 2 RBI triple to tie the Vikings 10-10.

As the light was starting to fade away, the Vikings had Garcia on base and freshman third baseman Evan Vazquez hit towards the Monarch third baseman and Garcia ran all the way home as the LA Valley third baseman muffed the throw to the catcher, and the Vikings walked off with the 11-10 win. 

The Long Beach City College Vikings will return to the field on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at Grossmont College at 1:30 p.m.

Track & Field- Track Opens SCC Season at Mt.SAC

The Long Beach City College track and field team opened their season this past weekend at Mt.SAC in the South Coast Conference opener.

For the women's throwers, freshman Casey Davis placed first in the shot put with an 11.69-meter mark, and fifth in the discus with 38.36 meters.

Freshman Natalie Meija took home third place in the 300-meter finals time of 43.39, and fourth in the javelin with 23.84-meter throw.

To round out the women's top showings, freshman Taj Grant placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:27:00.

On the men's side, the distance medley relay team (Gerardo Rubio, Xavier Evans, Jonathan Perez-Cortez, and Leonardo Acevedo) took first place with a time of 10:56.74.

The Vikings rounded off the top finishes with three third place showings starting with freshman LaSalle Jackson in the triple jump and with the javelin throw at 40.33 meters, and then freshman Azjani McGill in the 300-meter race with a time of 35.56.

The Vikings will return to the track on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at the Mt.SAC Combined Challenge.

Men's Volleyball- Vikings Open Season with Back-to-Back Wins

The Long Beach City College men's volleyball team opened their season with a 3-0 sweep win at Miramar College. The Vikings then carried their momentum to defeat Santiago Canyon with another sweep, and went on to take down Irvine Valley 3-2.

The Vikings ultimately fell to Orange Coast 3-2 on Saturday, Feb. 5, but they will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 11 at San Diego Mesa College at 3 p.m.
