Track Opens SCC Season at Mt.SAC

The Long Beach City College track and field team opened their season this past weekend at Mt.SAC in the South Coast Conference opener.

For the women's throwers, freshman Casey Davis placed first in the shot put with an 11.69-meter mark, and fifth in the discus with 38.36 meters.

Freshman Natalie Mejia took home third place in the 300-meter finals time of 43.39, and fourth in the javelin with 23.84-meter throw.

To round out the women's top showings, freshman Taj Grant placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:27:00.

On the men's side, the distance medley relay team (Gerardo Rubio, Xavier Evans, Jonathan Perez-Cortez, and Leonardo Acevedo) took first place with a time of 10:56.74.

The Vikings rounded off the top finishes with three third place showings starting with freshman LaSalle Jackson in the triple jump and with the javelin throw at 40.33 meters, and then freshman Azjani McGill in the 300-meter race with a time of 35.56.

The Vikings will return to the track on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at the Mt.SAC Combined Challenge.
