LBCC Athletics Welcomes Gissell Gutierrez as Senior Athletic Trainer
Gissell Gutierrez is set to assume the role of Senior Certified Athletic Trainer at Long Beach City College. Gissell's journey began as a student-athlete at Cerritos College, where she earned her Associate's Degree in Kinesiology and was part of the 2016 State and National Championship-winning women's soccer team. She then earned her Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training from California State University, Long Beach, becoming a certified athletic trainer in 2021, and went on to complete her Master's Degree in Kinesiology from California Baptist University in 2022.
With a diverse background in both collegiate and high school settings, Gissell has worked with a wide range of sports and athletic programs. From 2021 to 2023, she supported multiple teams at Long Beach City College, including football, men's volleyball, men's soccer, and basketball. Her experience also includes per diem athletic training work with Cerritos College and Orange Coast College, expanding her clinical skill set across various athletic environments.
Most recently, Gissell served as the Head Athletic Trainer at Sonora High School from 2023 to 2025, where she provided comprehensive care for over 400 student-athletes across 20 athletic teams. During her tenure, she was instrumental in establishing a fully functional athletic training facility from the ground up, laying the foundation for a sustainable and thriving sports medicine program. She is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), serves as a dual enrollment instructor for high school sports medicine courses, and is a preceptor for Cal State Long Beach's Master of Science in Athletic Training program, where she helps shape the next generation of athletic trainers.
