Joe Hicks guided Viking baseball teams to consecutive Metropolitan Conference, Southern California and state championships in 1968 and 1969. When he won his 500th game as Viking head coach, his sons Tom (pitcher) and Jay (catcher) were in the line-up. The LBCC baseball scoreboard is dedicated in his memory. He is also a member of the California Community College Baseball Hall of Fame.
