Misty May-Treanor Steps Down as Director of Volleyball Operations

It was recently announced that Misty May-Treanor is stepping down as the Director of Volleyball Operations at Long Beach City College (LBCC) on June 30th. This was May-Treanor's fourth season with the Vikings as the head coach for women's indoor and beach volleyball teams.

"Every challenge Misty has had in life she has met and excelled," said Interim Athletics Director Bill Husak.  "She was a champion indoor and beach volleyball player, and Olympian. She came to LBCC and proved that she was also an outstanding teacher and coach of volleyball. She is now stepping down to devote herself to be the best wife and mother she can be. I and all of LBCC want to thank Misty for contributing to the legacy of Vikings Athletics and wish her the very best in the future…she will always be a Viking."

Since she's been at the helm of indoor, May-Treanor has compiled a 79-22 overall record, 34-2 in the South Coast Conference (SCC), earned two SCC Coach of the Year awards, and two conference crowns, while making the playoffs every year.

For beach, May-Treanor totaled a 37-13 overall record, 16-4 in conference play and has been in the top three in the California Community College Athletics Association State Championship every year.

"It was a very hard decision," said May-Treanor. "I want to thank everyone in the athletics department for giving me this opportunity to make a difference and for being such great influencers and advisors throughout the whole process.  My goal has always been to make a difference in at least one person's life and by taking up this position the last four years, I feel I have done that and more. I am confident that I am leaving LBCC Women's Volleyball in a better spot than it had been, and I'll continue to follow the Vikings in their next endeavors."
