Tyler Jackson Named Interim Head Coach for Indoor and Beach Volleyball

It was recently announced that Tyler Jackson will be taking over as the Interim Head Coach for Indoor and Beach Volleyball at Long Beach City College (LBCC). Jackson has been the assistant coach under Misty May-Treaner for the past four years, where she helped the indoor volleyball team compile two conference championships, and make playoffs every year in the past four years and the beach volleyball team to two-consecutive undefeated conference championships and to be in the top three in the state championships every year.

"Tyler is a local Lakewood High and Long Beach State product. While coaching under May-Treanor, she earned her Masters Degree," said Interim Athetics Director Bill Husak. "She has excelled as an athlete and student and was on a staff led by one of the most respected women's volleyball figures in the history of the sport. She has earned the opportunity to lead the Vikings and on behalf of LBCC, we couldn't be happier to offer this opportunity to her. She will be a model of success for all in the program."

Jackson started her volleyball career at Lakewood High School, where she competed on the varsity team for three years, while earning multiple student athlete of the week awards. She also made California Interscholastic Federation semi-finals her senior year and was named into Lakewood Hall of Fame.

Jackson then took her skills and knowledge to Long Beach State University (LBSU), where she flourished as the Libero. She garnered multiple Defensive Athlete of the Week awards, and was able to take her skills to the beach and earned a Beach Volleyball National Championship with an undefeated record. At LBSU, she was named to the All-Conference First-Team and Big West Conference Libero of the Year in 2015.

After earning her Bachelors in Sociology and minor in Communications, she began to play professionally for the Blizzard Professional League, which allowed her to travel from Orlando, Florida all the way to Tokyo, Japan. While coaching at LBCC, she earned Masters of Arts in Kinesiology from Fresno Pacific University.

"Becoming the head coach is one that I am truly excited to embark on for this upcoming season," said Jackson. "My goal is to have a lasting impact on the program. I will always be grateful for Misty paving the way for a young woman like myself."
