The Long Beach City College beach volleyball team hosted defending state champions Feather River College for a doubleheader, earning a hard-fought split with a 3-2 victory in the opener before narrowly falling 3-2 in the second match.
In Game 1, the Vikings battled their way to a 3-2 win, securing key victories from the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5 pairs. Kaylani Moncada and Tyreana Allen controlled the No. 2 court with a 21-18, 21-16 win, while Alex Rosquin and Ryannah Gagau delivered a clutch three-set victory at No. 3 (21-17, 22-20, 16-14). Maggie Acevedo and Alana Jones sealed the team win with a straight-set triumph (21-17, 21-19) at No. 5.
The second match saw another intense battle, with the Vikings pushing Feather River to the limit. Moncada and Allen stayed dominant at the No. 1 spot, winning 21-16, 21-18, while Enaya Vaielua and Mikayla Curry came through in a thrilling three-set match (21-13, 21-17, 15-10) at No. 2. However, the Golden Eagles took the final three matchups to edge out a 3-2 victory and split the series.
"Overall, I'm proud of the team's growth and progress this season. Several of our players are first-time beach athletes, so defeating the defending state champions is huge for us," said Director of Volleyball Operations and Head Coach Tyler Jackson.
The Vikings aim to carry this momentum into their next matchups as they host College of the Desert and Mt. SAC on Friday, March 29, beginning at 10 a.m.
