Baseball: Vikings edged 2-1 in season opener at Irvine Valley

The Long Beach City College baseball team opened the 2013 season with a narrow 2-1 loss at Irvine Valley College on Friday. The two teams wrap up a two-game series on Saturday (Feb. 2) when LBCC hosts Irvine Valley in its home opener at Joe Hicks Memorial Field on Saturday at noon.

Long Beach (0-1) managed just two hits in the contest but scored the game first run in the top of the first. Sophomore Derrick Garcia led off the game with a double and two batters later came in to score on a RBI ground out by freshman Nolan Flashman.

Freshman Henry Severson led off the fourth inning with a single for LBCC's second hit in the contest.

Sophomore David Aispuro (pictured) tossed four shutout innings in the start for the Vikings. He allowed three hits, walked three, and struck out three.

Freshman Manuel Barragan (0-1) picked up the loss after allowing two unearned in the sixth inning.

Enzio Perez (1-0) earned the win for Irvine Valley (1-0) after allowing just two hits over seven innings of work.
