Baseball: Vikings get offensive in 13-1 season-ending sweep of Pasadena

Sophomores Phil Visico (pictured) and Jimmy Gosano both had three hits and drove in three runs to help lead the Long Beach City College baseball team to a 13-1 South Coast Conference win over visiting Pasadena City College on Friday at Joe Hicks Memorial Field.

The Vikings swept their final three-game conference series of the season and closed the 2013 schedule with a 21-15 overall record. Long Beach finished in fourth place in the final SCC standings with a 12-9 record.

Long Beach matched a season-high with 18 hits in today's contest as five Vikings had multiple-hit games.

Visico (3 for 6) smacked a pair of triples and also scored two runs. Gosano (3 for 5) reached base four times for LBCC and had a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.

Sophomore Jaime Valle also had a big game at the plate as he went 3 for 5 with three runs and a RBI. Sophomores Ray Patchen (2 for 6) and Avery Flores (2 for 5, 2 runs) also had two hits each for LBCC.

Four Long Beach pitchers also put together an impressive outing in the win. Freshman starter Michael Valenzuela picked up the victory to improve to 2-1 as he went five innings and allowed just two hits.

Freshman Nolan Flashman allowed an unearned run over two innings in his first pitching appearance of the season, followed by a perfect inning by freshman Michael Ostrea. And freshman Nick Wood struck out two of three batters he faced in the ninth to close out the win.

Trevor Gleason (0-4) picked up the loss for Pasadena (4-32, 1-20 SCC). He allowed five runs (four earned) and eight hits over 4 1/3 innings. At the plate, the Lancers totaled just four hits and left seven runners on base. Five errors also added to an already tough day for Pasadena.
