Long Beach City College totaled a season-high 14 hits but also set a new high mark by leaving 12 runners on base in a narrow 6-5 non-conference loss at Oxnard College on Saturday. LBCC's third straight loss dropped the Vikings to 1-3 overall.

Leading 5-4 in the ninth inning, Long Beach couldn't close out the victory as Oxnard (2-2) took advantage of some wild pitching to pull out the walk-off win. Sophomore reliever Tai Tiedemann (Poly HS) issued a pair of walks, hit two batters, and allowed a single after getting the first out of the frame.

LBCC broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the eighth thanks to an Oxnard error at shortstop that allowed freshman Andrew Jaekul (St. John Bosco HS) to score.

Long Beach got RBI singles in the first from freshman Vincent Byrd II (Sacramento, CA/El Camino HS) and sophomore Jackson Foss (Wilson HS) to take an early 2-0 lead. Sophomore Sean Williams' (Wilson HS) grounded into a double play in the third to force in a run and Tristin Chamberlain (Millikan HS) hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to put LBCC ahead 4-2.

Sophomore Schuyler Hill (Wilson HS) had a rough outing in his second start of the season. He allowed four runs and five hits over 3 1/3 innings. But freshmen Steven Nuno (Warren HS), and Jay Rohman (Wilson HS), as well as sophomore Evan May (Oxford Academy) combined for 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Tiedemann and Antonio Monroy (Warren HS) both had three hits to lead Long Beach at the plate.

Long Beach plays the second of three straight games on the road on Tuesday (Feb. 9) when the Vikings travel to Los Angeles Mission College for a 2 p.m. non-conference game.
