Long Beach City College took Game 2 of a three-game South Coast Conference series from Pasadena City College at home on Thursday, winning by a final score of 6-4. The victory improved the Vikings to 10-7 overall and 2-0 in the SCC.

LBCC totaled just seven hits in the contest but came through in the clutch when needed most. Tied 1-1, freshman Tony Monroy (Warren HS) smacked a two-out RBI triple in the second inning to score freshman Tristin Chamberlain (St. John Bosco HS) and give the Vikings the lead for good.

Long Beach put the game out of reach with three runs in the fifth. Sophomore Tai Tiedemann (Poly HS) and freshman Gavin Windes (St. John Bosco HS) hit consecutive singles to open the frame before freshman Vincent Byrd II (Sacramento, CA/El Camino HS) walked to load the bases. PCC relief pitcher Evan Bricker followed by hitting sophomores Jackson Foss (Wilson HS) and Sean Williams (Wilson HS) with pitches to force in runs. Daniel Rocha (Narbonne HS) walked to bring in another run and close out the scoring.

Windes smacked a RBI single in the seventh to drive in Tiedemann with the Vikings' final run of the game and extend their lead to 6-2. Windes added three more hits to his impressive March total as he went 3 for 4 with a RBI. He is 11 for 21 with 6 RBI for the month and leads the Vikings with a .418 batting average.

Making his first start of the season, sophomore Evan May (Oxford Academy) picked up the win to improve to 2-0. He allowed three earned runs and seven hits over 6 2/3 innings. Freshman Kyle Castillo closed out the victory with 2 1/3 scoreless innings for his first save.

Long Beach goes for the series sweep on Saturday (Mar. 12) in Pasadena at 12 p.m.
