Baseball: Long Beach stays perfect in conference, beat Compton 10-4

Sophomore Jackson Foss (Wilson HS) smashed a three-run home run as part of a five-run, first-inning to help lead Long Beach City College to a 10-4 victory at El Camino College Compton Center on Thursday in Game 2 of a three-game South Coast Conference. Long Beach has won four straight and improved to 5-0 in the SCC and 13-7 overall.

The Vikings will look to earn their second SCC series sweep of the season on Saturday (Mar. 19) when the two squads return to Long Beach for the finale at 12 p.m.

Long Beach totaled 11 hits in the contest, including Foss' 2 for 3 effort. Sophomores Tai Tiedemann (Poly HS) and Pernell Roberts Jr. (Westchester HS) both had two hits, including a RBI triple in the eighth by Roberts.

Long Beach jumped on Compton starter Adrian Martinez early, scoring five runs in the first to set the tone early. The Vikings closed out the game scoring a run in the seventh and two runs in both the eighth and ninth innings.

Sophomore Evan May (Oxford Academy) earned the win for the Vikings to improve to 3-0. He allowed one run and seven hits over seven innings. Freshman Jay Rohman (Wilson HS) closed out the win with a perfect ninth inning.

Compton fell to 2-17 overall and 1-4 in the SCC with the loss.
