Long Beach City College moved back into first place in the South Coast Conference standings thanks to its 9-3 win at Los Angeles Harbor College on Tuesday in an opening-game of a three-game series. With a 12-4 conference record, the Vikings currently sit in a three-way tie atop the SCC standings with Cerritos and El Camino. LBCC won its second straight to improve to 20-11 overall.

Freshman Vincent Byrd II (Sacramento, CA/El Camino HS) led the Vikings' offense, going 3 for 5 with a home run and 4 RBI. He extended LBCC's first-inning lead to 2-0 with a RBI groundout before smashing a two-run homer in the third. Byrd lined a RBI double in the sixth to give the Vikings a commanding 6-0 advantage.

Sophomore Tanner Moore (Irvine HS) and freshman Tony Monroy (Warren HS) also had three hits, part of 16-hit attack by the Vikings.

Freshman Daniel Rocha (Narbonne HS) was solid in his start on the mound for LBCC. He allowed two runs and seven hits over 7 1/3 innings to earn the win and improve to 6-2. He struck out seven and walked just one.

The SCC series moves to Long Beach for Game 2 on Thursday (Apr. 21) at 2:30 pm with the final back at Harbor on Saturday (Apr. 23) at noon.
