Long Beach returns to the playoffs for the third straight season.

The 2016 South Coast Conference champion Long Beach City College Vikings have received the No. 8 seed and will host the No. 9-seeded Bakersfield College Renegades in a best-of-three opening-round series of the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Game 1 is set for Friday (May 6) at 2 p.m. at LBCC's Joe Hicks Memorial Field. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. with a third game if necessary to follow 30 minutes after.

The LBCC Baseball field is located at the Liberal Arts Campus in Long Beach near the intersection of Clark Ave. and Lew Davis St. Tickets to the California Community College Athletic Association postseason event cost $12 for general admission and $8 for students, faculty, staff, senior citizens (60+), and children.

The Vikings recently wrapped up their third straight conference championship under head coach Casey Crook and are making their third consecutive postseason appearance as well. Long Beach went 16-5 in SCC play and enter the postseason with a 24-12 overall record.

LBCC looks to win its first state championship since 2006. Last year, the No. 7 seeded Vikings loss 2-0 to the No. 10 seed and eventual state champion Orange Coast College.

Bakersfield enters the playoffs with a 26-10 overall record and finished in second place in the Western State Conference Blue Division, just one game back of division champion Glendale College, at 16-5. The Renegades return to the postseason for the first time since 2013 and are led by 21st-year head coach Tim Paiton.

A series victory would advance the Vikings to the Super Regionals on May 13-15.
