It was a battle of top-20 teams Thursday afternoon under sunny conditions at Joe Hick Memorial Field as the No. 15 Long Beach City College baseball team played host to the No. 8 Orange Coast College Pirates. The Vikings did not play their best baseball by committing a total of four errors that led to a big fourth inning for the Pirates and a 9-1 defeat.

Freshman hurler Josh Agnew (Long Beach, CA) was handed the pearl for his third start of the season and did not have his greatest outing. Despite fanning five batters on the day, he allowed five runs. However, only one of those runs was earned.

The Vikings scratched across their lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning as freshman third baseman Reese Berberet (Fallbrook, CA) came around to score off a throwing error from the Pirate's third baseman after reaching base via double. Freshman designated hitter Jared Mayeda (Cypress, CA) was the batter who put the ball in play.

Freshman reliever Jacob Alcorn (Lakewood, CA) had a solid showing out of the bullpen by chucking a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Vikings (4-2) will look to rebound against Grossmont College on Saturday, February 11th at home. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. pending weather.
